Happiness

Happiness is a conscious choice,
not an automatic response.

I think its not even a choice. Its there alwayz, its just that you are not witnessing it. And in the very witnessing, even the consicousness is not there. So to refine the statement, Happiness is neither conscious nor is a choice.

Besides, once its a choice, it becomes an object of desire. And no desire brings you close to reality (happiness).

Great thought there Sree. I agree with you on desire not leading to true happiness.

There 'could' be a subtle difference between choice and desire. Choice comes when we have two definitive options and we choose to go for one. Desire is to yearn for something which may or may not be a definite possibility. What comes your way as choice is both sadness and happiness. Because the world is always a complete mix of both. To choose to be happy is nothing but a conscious choice.

Well, interesting thoughts Maadhu. Continuing to think deeper, I feel "Choice" is something that one decides to "Accept". And in the very acceptance, there is a "liking", a feeling "want". This is the same as the desire energy... you think so?

Hope I am not just playing with words here ;) :-)
